The Dragon and Phoenix are two of the oldest symbols in history. Circa 1880. Indo Agra Rug are difficult to classify as they vary in size, design, and composition. Although they often exhibit open fields with smaller medallions and guards, they can also be woven with all-over designs

In Persia, Kashan was a center of silk production and, as the largest city in the northwest, a major stop on every trade route. Kashan’s weaving produced some of the most desirable and best classical Persian rugs. This is a great example of an all-over design. Kashan rugs come from the historical city in Iran. The original Kashan dates back to the 17thCentury in royal workshops. Kashan rugs are usually made of tightly woven cotton and often show bright colors dyed by vegetable dyes.

The Mughal empire in India led to the apex of Indian weaving. The emperors commissioned these fantastic rugs with a mix of Persian and classic Indian motifs, here represented by the tulips which carry with them the symbolism of Spring and Rebirth. The vibrant colors give the rug a royal bearing.
