A very rare sized 14’6 x 15’1 Ziegler & Co. vintage Sultanabad. In the late 1870’s Ziegler & Co. set up workshops in the Sultanabad region to meet the high demand for Persian carpets in Europe. Ziegler Sultanabad rugs feature both all over floral motifs and central medallion patterns in soft luxurious pile and beautiful natural dyes. Designs are symmetrical and balanced, creating a feeling of spaciousness in the field with proportionally pleasing borders. Sultanabad derive from classical Persian carpets that exemplify beautiful carpets, such as Kashan Tabriz and Kerman. They display striking fidelity and small scaled ornamental detail no matter how large they may be. The town of Sultanabad, modern day Arak has been an important center for weaving carpets since the 1800’s. Arak, the capital of the province Markazi, is located in western Iran on the eastern side of the Zagros Mountains. All in all, Sultanabad rugs represent an important and unique rug style.
