This small town and it’s surrounding villages are populated by Kurdish people who are known for their great craft and artistic ability. These grand carpets were often commissioned by Persian aristocrats and nobles. One distinguishing feature of these carpets are their heavy wool foundation. The weavers pound down the knots which create a carpet that can withstand up to 200 years of heavy use. This particular carpet has the classic Bijar motif and benefits from the same indestructible Kurdish weave with a light all-over palmette and lotus flower field.
