Rare Antique Bijar is Connoisseur-Caliber and is made of natural dyes, and fine wool. The small town of Bijar produces carpets that are known worldwide for their superb craft and fine materials. This small town and it’s surrounding villages are populated by Kurdish people who are known for their great craft and artistic ability. These grand carpets were often commissioned by Persian aristocrats and nobles. One distinguishing feature of these carpets are their heavy wool foundation. The weavers pound down the knots which create a carpet that can withstand up to 200 years of heavy use. This particular carpet has the classic Bijar motif and benefits from the same indestructible Kurdish weave with a light all-over palmette and lotus flower field. The original Kashan dates back to the 17thCentury in royal workshops. Kashan rugs are usually made of tightly woven cotton and often show bright colors dyed by vegetable dyes.

These extremely rare design concepts on this Ziegler & Company Usak Rug continued through the 17th and 18th centuries evolving in drawing and weave. The Turkish community revered carpet weaving as one of the highest forms of art. The court weavers of that time had tremendous resources at their disposal. What came forth were designs of the utmost beauty and magnificence that would reflect the power and refinement of the Ottoman Empire.
Turkish design traditions held that all designs were endless in the eyes of God, It was believed an artist’s work was capturing only a small portion of the complicated designs. The vast beauty of these carpets was appreciated by the rulers of the East and even more so by the noble and aristocratic classes of Europe. Beginning in the early 16th century, Oushak Medallion carpets were featured in European portraits to signify the wealth, stature and taste.
