Antique Rugs
In the 1650’s-1685 the Savonneriere rugs were gaining popularity and esteem around Europe. These lovely designs are made of silk and specialize in small details. The Ghiordes knot is used and is modeled after many Persian models. Soon French pectoral and armorial designs were most promident in these lovely carpets.

Savonnerie rugs along with Aubusson rugs have purely French designs with the occasional addition of Rococo elements. They are knotted like an oriental rug, on a cotton foundation. The pile is mostly wool, with occasional silk highlights.
