A Mamluk carpet exquisitely crafted using organically dyed hand spun wool. Mamluk carpets use a simple color palette consistent of blue, red, yellow and green. One of the most significant clues we have to Mamluk designs is their representation in Venetian paintings where they began to appear in the 16th century. They are characterized by a central medallion which is surrounded by smaller motifs. The smaller motifs are geometric, amking the carpet appear as a kaleidosscope. One of the finest examples of surviving Mamluk rugs is in the Berdini textile museum in Italy.
