This is a superb Afshar weaving with the delicate classic Tulip flower and rose shrub trellis. It is woven in first half of 19th. century on an indigo blue back ground reminiscent of shiraz nights with intricate borders of linked flowers.
This type of carpets are most often woven by the senior female weavers as they aim for perfection and their masterful skills are evident in this weaving. It was used as an audience rug sitting on top of larger rugs on special occasion and sometimes used to cover the traditional Corsy in winter time to beautify their tent. A true irreplaceable piece of woven art.
