A rare example of an Ziegler and Co. antique Indian Agra with exquisite 16th century Persian carpet design featuring a Dragon and Phoenix motif. The Dragon and Phoenix are two of the oldest symbols in history. Circa 1880. Indo Agra Rug are difficult to classify as they vary in size, design, and composition. In Persia, Kashan was a center of silk production and, as the largest city in the northwest, a major stop on every trade route. Kashan’s weaving produced some of the most desirable and best classical Persian rugs. This is a great example of an all-over design. Kashan rugs come from the historical city in Iran. The original Kashan dates back to the 17thCentury in royal workshops. Kashan rugs are usually made of tightly woven cotton and often show bright colors dyed by vegetable dyes.
