An Yomud Asmalyk (Turkmen language, “a thing to be hung) is a textile trapping used in a Turkmen wedding procession. Asmalyks were made in pairs to decorate the flanks of a bride’s wedding camel, and were then hung in her domed, felt-covered tent.

Yomud rugs use reddish brown and plum hues, as well as geometric borders to create a striking appearance. Yomud rugs vary greatly in design, unlike the other main Turkomen rug, the Tekke rug. This Antique Yomud Chuval Bagface from Turkestan was used as the cover for storage bags for this major nomadic tribe of Turkestan.
